In January 2025 the Gulf of Mexico was renamed the Gulf of America by Executive Order 14172. In July 2026 Lake Ontario was renamed Lake America by Executive Order 14422. The Atlas of America (formerly ~~the American Atlas~~) follows this logic to its natural conclusion. Additional landmarks are renamed as well, as befitting American Greatness.

U.S. place names are typically maintained by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names (est. 1890). On August 31, 2026, the U.S. Board on American Names assumed the duties of the U.S. Board on Geographic Names, whose name was the new Board’s first renaming.

The Atlas of America is satire. Not affiliated with any government, bureau, executive order, or golf course. Except for the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario, the renamings here are fictional. For now.
